Sharon's Local Media Coverage
Of all of the Trustee candidates, Sharon has most consistently been recognized by the local press.
Some stood above the rest by Derek Spalding (The Daily News):
"Also keep an eye out for Sharon Welch who earned enthusiastic responses from the audience when she stressed the importance of investing in music and arts programs. Like the more experienced candidates, she called for all districts to fight for more funding, taking a very specific question and broadening the issue. She's savvy and sees the big picture. She also called to stop closing schools and to protect and encourage alternate pathways to graduation."
Welch one of strongest voices at candidate debate in letter to editor (The Daily News):
"...With all due respect, one of the strongest voices on this topic was Sharon Welch, a new face on the school board scene. Welch, who has more than 20 years of experience as a music teacher and education director of a Vancouver area music school, spoke with such assurance and so professionally that perhaps Spalding mistook her for an incumbent. Her self-confidence and conviction seemed to impress many of the spectators and other school board candidates as well."
Forum tackles issues by Danielle Bell (The Daily News and The Harbour City Star):
"To the question of the three most important issues of concern regarding public education, school trustee candidate Sharon Welch said there was only one issue. 'I believe there is only one issue' said Welch. 'The issue is to get funding so we can give your children the quality education they deserve.' Welch, a music teacher who also spoke about the need for smaller class sizes and the distress surrounding the uncertainty over school closure threats, said the board needs to go beyond 'short-term fixes' for viable solutions."
